Brackley Cottage Hospital
Over the last few years, the much loved and respected Cottage Hospital in Pebble Lane has been under threat of potential closure.
The Trustees and Staff of the hospital have been very vocal in trying to secure the future of the hospital.
Two years ago, a small group, consisting of representatives from the Cherwell Vale Primary Care Trust, (PCT), now North Oxfordshire, The trustees of the Cottage Hospital, local Doctors, local Town and District Councillors, Northamptonshire County Council Social services, Mr Tim Boswell, our local MP and Brackley Vision have been working to identify the health needs of Brackley and the surrounding area.
Following lengthy debate, and public consultation, agreement had been reached with the North Oxfordshire PCT to go out to the private sector and to find a partner who will build a new “Hospital” in Brackley.
It was envisaged that this “hospital” will be co-located with a private care home, allowing economies of scale in nursing and administration.
Negotiations were well advanced with a potential contractor, when theGovernment decided to re-arange the PCT boundaries. This has meant that Brackley and its hinterland will now move to the re-organised Northamptonshire PCT. The new organisation has decided that it will not support the project at this time, therefore the new hospital is once again "under threat".
